Kelvin Quantum exhibited at SEMICON Taiwan 2026 as part of the UK Pavilion. Robert and Stavroula travelled out as part of the DBT UK trade mission focusing on customers, suppliers and connection building between Taiwan and UK industry.
This year’s event leaned towards injecting quantum into the mix hosting a quantum technology exhibition zone, several events based on full stack and enabling technologies and quantum focused investor panel through the week. This really highlighted that Taiwan, the semiconducting giant is beginning to take more notice and make active moves towards becoming a major player on the global quantum stage with their extensive fabrication facilities and expertise this year they demonstrated the countries potential for rapid growth in the growing quantum technology field.
As part of the trade mission Kelvin Quantum’s team had the opportunity early in the week to both exhibit their tech within a meeting of Taiwanese investors and engineering leads within Taipei 101, followed by a visit to the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) to see the world class research being carried out and discuss potential collaborations across a wide variety of industries and fields.

Tuesday began with a quantum sub-event, ahead of the main opening of SEMICON on wednesday, focused on full stack quantum computing, seeing talks from a wide range of worldwide companies from across the range of qubit modalities showcasing their use of semiconductor technology to push the field. This was followed by a Quantum night, a great dinner, traditional entertainment and networking event held at the Taipei Marriot focused on bringing the local and international quantum communities together.
Wednesday kicked off SEMICON with full force. Two massive convention centres, multiple floors and tens of thousands of people from every facet of the semiconducting industry and a host of spin out events. Kelvin Quantum’s stall was integrated into the UK pavilion alongside a vast array of UK Semiconducting industry at from photonics to fabs. The UK pavilion was itself opened by the CEO of the UK Semiconducting centre Andy McLean alongside representative of the Office of the United Kingdom in Taipei Ruth Bradley-Jones.

Wednesday also say a Quantum partners event focused on enabling technologies for quantum at which Robert presented a talk focused on Kelvin Quantum’s approach to Scaling cold quantum systems using CryoCMOS.

The week carried on with further events at the UK Pavilion including the classic scotch whiskey tasting led by DBT’s (and Scotland’s) very own Calum McCallum fully decked out in Scottish attire Kilt and all. With a further Quantum Investment day on the Wednesday enabling Robert to pitch to local and international investors it really resonated that Taiwan’s attention has turned to next generation technologies and we all left excited to see how much further next years SEMICON Taiwan could bring quantum into the spotlight.
Our takeaway’s from the week was an understandable respect for Taiwans manufacturing and research capabilities. The sheer scale of the facilities and the speed at which things were happening is really now pushing us to focus on our own pace of development. The incredible events and networking that we were given access to was invaluable across a number of industries not just Quantum. At this years event AI is still the gleaming start of the show, but with a growing Quantum footprint, events, international and national industry we’d not be surprised that even as soon as next year Quantum would could be holding its own in the spotlight.

Many thanks to those at BOT, DBT, Semiconductor centre and Innovate UK who made this all possible!
